I visited Ha Long Baie on New Year's Eve and Day in 2003. To say the least, it was eerie, knowinthat it it was there --also called the Gulf of Tonkin--where LBJ lied the US into bombing North Viet Nam. The beauty of the Baie was only matched by the waqrmth of the North Viet Namese, which I did not expect. We danced to Abba ("Happy New Year") and saluted World Peace. As i say, eerie.....
